Today In room 7 we have learnt about Venice and how tourists
are making it worse for the land to sink much more faster.

(paragraph 2) What is the best meaning of
“devastating” as used in this sentence?
A huge
B destructive
C exaggerated
D wide-ranging

2. Quotation marks are used around the word

B They demonstrate the economic benefits of mass tourism.
C They indicate that local people do not support mass tourism.
D They show that mass tourism has both positive and negative effects.

4. What is the main purpose of the phrase “So how”? (paragraph 5)
F to reinforce an anti-tourism message
G to present an additional example of eco-tourism
H to add more information about problems in tourism
J to shift the focus from problems to solutions in tourism

Answer these questions in complete sentences.

5. How does the first sentence of this selection catch the
reader’s attention? The reason why the first sentence
selection catch the reader's attention because it said that
Venice is sinking and millions of tourism’s are coming there
to see the land sink into the open sea.

6. According to this selection, what is one way Venice would
use the money from a “tax on all visitors”? Paying for the damage
that has been destroyed from the city.

7. Why does the writer start the final sentence of paragraph 3
with the word “And”? It says that because they are deciding who
can visit the place or can't visit the place. Just like if you were
allowed in Venice you're allowed to see it sink but the reason why
they are saying you can’t go there because the amount of people
on the platform will make it worse.

8. Name one environmentally sensitive spot on Earth not
mentioned in this selection and explain why it is sensitive.  I think
the reason why Venice is sinking because. It might be caused by
the surface underneath the top surface of the earth. And it’s just
like when dirt gets touched by water or anything liquid it starts to
absorb the liquid and turn into something which is called mud. So
what I am saying is that it might be sinking because that lack of
water absorbing the dirt underneath the concrete of Venice.

9. Is this selection more “in favour of” or more “against” tourism?
Give a reason for your answer. This is likely to be both but it is
mostly bout against tourism. Because the lack of more and more
people coming from overseas and imaging and huge person standing
on the top surface of Venice. But later it starts to sink faster and faster.
