Study Notes - Number

Study Notes - Number

1) Numerals

Multiples - a number that can be divided by another number a certain number of times without a remainder

Factors - a number or quantity that when multiplied with another has the final product with having a decimal only a whole

Prime numbers - a number that only has 2 factors, itself and 1

     HCF - (highest common factor)

     LCF - (lowest common factor)

2) Order of Operations

     B ~ Brackets

     E ~ Exponents

     D ~ Division

     M ~ Multiplications

     A ~ Addition

     S ~ Subtraction

For example, 5^3 + 4 (6 x 9) = ??, following the Order of Operations you start with brackets (), e.g. (6x9) = 54... rewrite the equation to 5^3 + 4 x 54 = ??, then next of Order of Operations is exponents ^e.g. 5^3 = 125... rewrite the equation to 125 + 4 x 54 = ??, next is division but there are no division in the equation. Next is multiplication x, e.g. 4 x 54 = 216... rewrite the equation to 125 + 216 which would finally equal to 341. Now 5^3 + 4 (6 x 9) = 341.

3) Rounding

What is "Rounding"? Rounding implies simplifying a number yet keeping its worth near what it was. The outcome is less exact.

For example, Round 6.35719 to 2dp, If the NEXT number is a 5 or higher then round the LAST digit UP If the NEXT number is a 0-4, leave the last digit alone... 6.35719 to 2dp... "5" is higher so round up so it equals to 6.40.

4) Standard Form

The standard form allows us to use multiple numbers without as many digits.

5)Percentage of Amounts

Percentage formula ~ p% * x = y... Convert 10% to a decimal by eliminating the percent sign and partitioning by 100: 10/100 = 0.10.

Waitangi Day

Waitangi Day, a day of peace, conflict, and fun! Everybody’s perspectives change drastically which means they would honor the way they believe in what they think is right.

Firstly, there are numerous facts about the Treaty of Waitangi. The main statement was when the treaty was signed, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed on February the 6th of 1940… Another fact is the people who signed the treaty, which was the indigenous maaori chiefs Hone Heke with around 540 maaori chiefs surrounding the treaty’s paper. At the end of signing the treaty which was made mostly for protection and peace, it ended with chaos and conflict.

Along with Waitangi Day, there are three different points of view and perspectives responding to most people. They are people who celebrate the honor of the treaty and it resembled PEACE! On the other hand, there were people who believe it should not be celebrated because it was a day of terror and sadness.

Turning towards my own perspective. I think it is extremely important to have a lot of knowledge about both sides of the story. Because that would probably resolve most of the problems of both the conflict and honor.
